Lieutenant Fred Laurie began his career with the Boca Raton Police Services Department in 2004. Prior to this he worked at the Greenville Police Department in South Carolina for 4 years. Lieutenant Laurie became a Field Training Officer with the agency in 2005. In 2007, Lieutenant Laurie was transferred to the Special Services Bureau where he served in the DUI Enforcement Unit and Motorcycle Unit. Lieutenant Laurie was a Traffic Homicide Investigator, Police Motorcycle Instructor, and became the agency’s first Drug Recognition Expert.
Lieutenant Laurie was promoted to the rank of Sergeant in 2015 and was assigned as a supervisor in Road Patrol. In 2016, he was transferred to the Investigative Services Bureau, where he supervised the Economic Crime Unit, Computer Crimes Unit, and Property Crimes Unit. In 2019, he was transferred to the Professional Standards Bureau where he supervised the Recruiting Unit, Internal Affairs Unit and Police Explorers. In 2020, Lt. Laurie was promoted to his current rank and was assigned to the Communications Section and Real Time Crime Center. In 2022, Lt. Laurie was reassigned and is currently the Special Operations Section Commander, overseeing the Marine Unit, Motor Unit, Canine Unit, DUI Unit, Traffic Homicide Unit and Community Service Officers.
Lieutenant Laurie attended Clemson University and is currently completing his bachelor’s degree in criminal justice at Lynn University.
Lieutenant Laurie has received numerous traffic safety awards, the MADD 100+ Arrest award, 2 Unit Citations, Outstanding Evaluation Citations, and was selected as the 2007 Police Officer of the Year.
