Such improvements include, but are not limited to, promotion and marketing, parking options and a transportation/shuttle system.

Join us on an entertaining and educational guided and narrated tour of the beautiful Ancient Spanish Monastery in North Miami Beach. In 1953, TIME magazine called it the "biggest jigsaw puzzle in history" due to the structure's dismantling in Spain in 1925 and re-building years later in South Florida. Following our tour, we will take time to peruse through the gift shop where you may purchase something to commemorate your trip if you choose. We will then embark to Greynolds Park where we will enjoy the natural surrounds and a boxed lunch at one of their gazebos. The trip includes light refreshments at the community center prior to departure, a narrated tour of the Ancient Spanish Monastery, a boxed lunch, and round trip motor coach transportation to and from Patch Reef Park. Please arrive at Patch Reef Park for check-in by 8:00am. Pre-registration is required.

The Spanish River Library and Community Center is celebrating 10 years of service to the community with a Literary Cake Decorating Contest! Bake a cake with your favorite literary theme, such as a scene or character from your favorite book, or borrow one of the cake pans in our Special Collection. Categories include Adult, Family, Teen (12-17), and Youth (11 years and under). Bring your cake to the Spanish River Library on Saturday, January 27, between 9:00-11:00am. Judging will take place between 12:00-4:00pm, and winners will be announced at 5:00pm. Participants and the public will be treated to cupcakes during judging time. Winners will receive ribbons, a photo with their cake and bragging rights! (One cake per person/family; no commercially decorated cakes allowed.)

From December 20, 2017 through February 4, 2018, the Downtown Library will feature a photo exhibit, "Woodland Sweden," through a collaboration with the Consulate of Sweden in Fort Lauderdale. Created by Architects Sweden and the Swedish Institute, the exhibit will take you on a journey through Swedish architecture, from traditional wooden cottages to new apartment blocks made entirely of wood. Sweden's ecological perspective and its practice of using timber as a renewable resource are explored in the exhibit. On January 29, the library will present an accompanying film screening and discussion of "Welcome to Woodland." Both the exhibit and film screening are free and open to the public.
