In accordance with the posted Call to Artists, the Boca Raton City Council seeks to commission artists to create a site-specific exterior visual artwork to be placed on the stage doors of the Mizner Park Amphitheater, 590 Plaza Real, Boca Raton, FL 33432.
Work may begin on January 4, 2021 and must be completed on or before March 31, 2021.
At the December 8, 2020 City Council Meeting all proposals will be reviewed by the City Council. The selected artist(s) will be announced.
Please fill out the following information exactly as you would like it to appear on all printed material, social media and the City of Boca Raton website if your artwork is chosen:
Mizner Park Amphitheater Stage Doors Art Entry

Proposal must include an 8" x 10", color rendering, landscape layout of the proposal, overlaid on the photo of the amphitheater for a sample of the proposal on the stage doors. The written statement (below) should include a brief summary that describes the stage doors proposal and any related points to demonstrate how it meets the Call to Artists and the Project Selection Criteria.
Describe the conceptual basis for your practice and approach, including how you envision approaching the project and how it meets the Project Selection Criteria (link). Include experience working with similar murals and painting. Proposed concept must be developed enough to provide clear understanding of the purpose, content and media of the mural and its relationship to the City, Mizner Park Amphitheater, Mizner Park and Downtown Boca. Maximum length: 300 words.
Include degrees held, a summary list of public art projects, exhibitions completed during the past ten (10) years, awards, catalogues, current gallery affiliations, grants/fellowships and experience in working with multiple agencies including public agencies. Maximum length: two (2) pages.
Please include up to 3 images (minimum of 1, which is the proposal of art for the stage doors) and two others of completed art works or projects in wall or large-scale murals. Suggested file size is 1920 pixels on the longest side submitted as a JPG.
Please provide a Digital ID Sheet. Make sure to label your uploaded images to match the Digital ID Sheet. For each image, please include:
•Title of Work
•Date of Work
•1-2 sentences of explanatory text
Artist must agree that artwork will become the property of, and, owned by the City of Boca Raton upon completion. Artist(s) shall also agree to waive all proprietary rights to, and ownership of the visual art, all claims that may arise under VARA, and, acknowledge the City’s right to modify, remove and/or maintain such visual art. Artist Agreement (as shown in link above) must be completed by Artist prior to first payment installment.
Acceptance, selection and placement of all artwork is determined Boca Raton City Council. All decisions are final.
If proposal meets all criteria and is selected, the project must reflect the Proposed Rendering as approved to ensure final payment for artwork.
Artist must acknowledge the following: the information submitted is truthful and accurate to the best of the Artist's ability and agree to the terms and conditions outlined in the referenced Call to Artists for the "Mizner Park Amphitheater Stage Doors Mural"; the funds provided by the City of Boca Raton for this visual arts project will be utilized for the purpose of creating a mural for public purpose and viewing; that the Artist(s) has no conflicts of interest, including, but not limited to a familial or financial relation with elected or appointed officials and/or employees of the City of Boca Raton; any such conflicts may disqualify Artist from participating. Artist agrees the following related to the site: that he/she will keep all areas of the stage and the amphitheater clean and free of paint or debris, protected from scratches or other physical damage including but limited to the stage door tracks, floor of stage, side walls, proscenium above and the entire amphitheater grounds; no vehicles or parking will be permitted inside the amphitheater, or grounds -- parking will be available in the grass lot adjacent to the amphitheater throughout the duration of the project; if scaffolding or boom lift is used, it must be secured overnight -- scaffolding with wheels may be moved into the stage area and stored overnight, as coordinated with amphitheater staff; initial setup and ending times shall be coordinated with the amphitheater staff; area shall be clear and navigable without obstructions while the work is being performed on or near the sidewalk and any public pathways adjacent to the project area.
