Respect the Locals: Diving into LMC’s Conservation Based Initiatives
Valerie Tovar, Conservation Coordinator, Loggerhead Marinelife Center

Loggerhead Marinelife Center's Conservation Department, Project SHIELD, works to develop and implement multifaceted comprehensive solutions to man-made threats facing sea turtles. The Project SHIELD focuses on sustainable fishing interactions, sea turtle safe boating, habitat restoration and pollution prevention initiatives. With an estimation of over eight million metric tons of plastic entering the ocean every year, pollution prevention is a top priority of LMC’s conservation initiatives. To combat plastic pollution, LMC regularly conducts on land and underwater cleanups, implements the Blue Table Restaurant Program and hosts our Annual Tour de Trash beach cleanup initiative.   Throughout this presentation, we will dive into the world of conservation and the various initiatives conducted under project shield.
