[ARCHIVED] City Council Approves PPE Littering Fine Increase to $250

PPE and face masks that have been littered

At the Tuesday, March 23, 2021 City Council Meeting, the City Council unanimously passed a fine increase for individuals littering COVID-19 personal protective equipment (PPE), from $50 to $250, effective immediately.

Code Enforcement and Police Officers can enforce the fine if they see an individual actively littering PPE in or upon the roads, streets, rights-of-way, storm drains, canals, lakes, other bodies of water, or any public or private property within the city. PPE includes:

  • Masks
  • Gloves
  • Face Shields
  • Other similar personal protective equipment used to prevent disease transmission
