Boca Raton Youth to Host Mental Health Round Table Discussion

Boca Raton youth discussing topics at a round table

BOCA RATON, FL – September 19, 2019 – The City of Boca Raton's Community Advisory Panel (CAP) Youth Subcommittee will host a Mental Health Discussion for the youth, by the youth. The discussion will be held on September 25 at 6pm at the Boca Raton Public Library, 400 NW 2nd Avenue. The round-table discussion will focus on mental health issues and initiatives.

The Youth Subcommittee is inviting students from the city schools to attend the peer-to-peer discussion to voice their concerns and experiences regarding mental health issues. Board Members from the Subcommittee and CAP will lead conversations with students at each table to create a safe and open environment where they can discuss ways to raise awareness, educate each other on available resources and services and think of ways to combat the stigma of mental health. The CAP and Youth Subcommittee plan on presenting their findings to the Palm Beach County School District as well as the Boca Raton City Council, to provide possible recommendations to establish or improve prevention of mental illness among young people in the community.

The Youth Subcommittee was established by the Community Advisory Panel (CAP), a board created by the Boca Raton City Council. The CAP provides a public forum for residents to express their concerns and initiatives regarding the quality of life issues in Boca Raton. Several of the Council-appointed panel members are high school and college students who advocated to start a Youth Subcommittee of the panel. The subcommittee focuses on youth concerns and initiatives and invites local students to participate in regular meetings. They also encourage student participation in local government activities.

The Youth Subcommittee meets the second Thursday of each month at 5pm in the Community Center Annex located at Crawford Boulevard, Boca Raton, FL 33432.
