Sale, sale away- but get your permit first!

Garage sale sign on residential mailbox

Bargain hunters don’t despair, garage sales will still be happening in a neighborhood near you, but only between 8am-5 pm. The Boca Raton City Council recently passed Ordinance 5470: Garage Sale Permitting & RegulationsThis new law regulates garage sales in neighborhoods within the City limits. Homeowners must obtain a free permit prior to having a garage sale. The permit limits the hours of the sale and the number of sales a homeowner can have in a calendar year. These new rules will help ensure that frequent garage sales at the same location don’t become disruptive in a neighborhood. The ordinance was proposed by City staff and unanimously passed on October 10, 2018.

Instead of heading into City Hall to fill out a permit, residents can simply fill out a garage sale permit application ONLINE and receive their approved permit by email. Applications will typically be approved by Code Enforcement within 24 hours, Monday -Friday. Once the application is approved, homeowners must comply with the garage sale permitting regulations that can be found on the City's website.

  • No more than four permitted garage sales are allowed at the same residence each year.
  • Hours of operation: 8:00 am – 5:00 pm.
  • One sign permitted on the premises.
