Based on an executive order by Governor Rick Scott, Mayor Susan Haynie was suspended from office on Friday, April 27, 2018. Therefore, in accordance with the City Charter, Deputy Mayor Scott Singer is the Mayor of the City of Boca Raton.
A public discussion regarding the processes and procedures relating to the office of Mayor was held on Monday, April 30, 2018 at 4:30 p.m. City Attorney, Diana Frieser, gave a presentation reviewing the applicable sections of the Florida State Statutes and City Charter and then answered questions from City Council members. The meeting was open to the public, who then had an opportunity to ask questions and provide comments.

Moving forward, the following actions may be taken:
- Monday, May 7 - Mayor Scott Singer will take the oath of office at the City Council Workshop
- Tuesday, May 8 - City Council may vote on a resolution to hold a special mayoral election on August 28
