Shoppers, diners and visitors to Downtown Boca’s Mizner Park now have the opportunity to brush up on their short game at the new Putt’n on the Plaza.
The 20x20, four hole putting green was installed this month and has accompanying putters and balls available to use for free. The green is located on the east side of Mizner Park just north of the center fountain.
Mayor Susan Haynie brought the idea forward at last year’s City budget hearing and asked the City staff to allocate funding to develop the putting green. The idea is to encourage visitors of all ages to pick up a putter and play while enjoying a visit to Mizner Park.
“I had a conversation with someone who had seen a similar concept in Colorado, and it sounded like an innovative idea,” explained Mayor Haynie. “It’s an added attraction and a conversation piece, and it’s unique to our fun and active outdoor lifestyle in Boca Raton. We had the space and decided we’d give it a try.”
$10,000 was budgeted to create the green, but the construction, signage and equipment, including the putters and balls, was completed for less.
“We love seeing pictures of people having a great time in our Downtown and this will be another reason to post pictures of entertainment and family fun in Downtown Boca,” added Ruby Childers, Downtown Manager. “It’s a free perk for all to enjoy.”
For those interested in a longer game, the City has additional 9 and 18-hole golf options. The 9-hole Alan C. Alford Course at Red Reef Park is a beautiful par 32 layout overlooking the ocean, and the Boca Raton Municipal Course offers 18 holes of championship golf plus a 9-hole executive course. The City also offers FREE golf for juniors who play with a paying adult. The Junior Family Special is for children 17 and under. Visit our golf page for additional information or to make a tee time.
