[ARCHIVED] Boca Raton's Two Water Towers Set for Demolition

Boca Raton's two water towers, which are no longer used for water service, will be demolished this month.  The two steel tank towers, each about 138 feet high and built in 1958, have not been used to provide water service for over a decade. The City's three remote pumping stations manage the City's water pressure system wide, making the towers obsolete. 

Allstate Tower Inc., Pittsburg Tank & Tower Group will begin with the south tower, located along Dixie Highway south of Camino Real. They will pre-cut the steel bowl and have a crane remove the bowl in sections.  Demolition of each tank should take about three weeks. The company will then move to the North Dixie Highway location, where local roads may be closed due to the location of the tank. 

The City of Boca Raton and the Boca Raton Historical Society have each documented the towers' time here in town with photography and video.
