The two steel tank towers, each about 138 feet high and built in 1958, have not been used to provide water service for over a decade. The City's three remote pumping stations manage the City's water pressure system wide, making the towers obsolete.
Allstate Tower Inc., Pittsburg Tank & Tower Group began with the south tower, located along Dixie Highway south of Camino Real. After pre-cutting the steel bowl, a crane removed the bowl in sections. Demolition of each tank took about three weeks and the company completed demolition of the North Dixie Highway tower on April 3, 2017.
City officials have not yet determined how the now vacant parcels will be used.
