Story Central Virtual Storytelling Slam
Sunday, July 11, 2021
The Story Central Virtual Storytelling Slam is an opportunity for adults to enter a friendly competition to share true, first-person stories -- not poems or essays -- of approximately 5-7 minutes in length. Adults are welcome to volunteer to sign up to tell a story or just sit back, listen and enjoy. Judges in the audience select the winner, who is awarded a prize. Stories are not to be read or memorized. Enrollment required. Please provide an email address. Zoom information will be emailed upon enrollment.
“The point of these events is to give community members a voice, and to encourage people to listen to what they have to say,” says Story Central producer Caren Neile, Ph.D. “We are not looking for professional performances, just authentic, you-are-there storytelling. Just as important, we are looking for great listeners!” Dr. Neile has taught storytelling studies at Florida Atlantic University for nearly two decades and held local storytelling slams for most of that time.
