Introduction to Honey Bees & Beekeeping in Florida

Tuesday, June 8, 2021

Join us in this introduction to the fascinating world of honey bees and backyard beekeeping in Florida. We will cover basic honey bee biology, social structures and behaviors of the colony, pollinating patterns, and the current state of honey bees in the U.S. We will also introduce the very basics of backyard beekeeping in Florida and provide resources to move you along on your beekeeping journey if you choose to embark on that path. If time allows, we will cover other ways to support all bees (native bees, too!) in your home and garden.

About the Instructor: Meghan Orman is a third-year Master Beekeeper in the University of Florida's Master Beekeeper Program. Her focus is on education and sharing the importance and wonders of the life of honey bees with as many people as she can. Meghan is a lifelong learner and nature enthusiast, and is passionate about making connections between our homes, our gardens, and our pollinating companions. She is currently pursuing a PhD in Psychology in Education at the University of Pittsburgh.
