City Attorney

The City Attorney is appointed by the City Council to serve as its legal advisor and to be the legal counsel to the City Manager, the City departments and their staff, and most appointed boards.

The City Attorney prepares or approves all proposed ordinances, resolutions and contracts to be considered by the City Council. The City Attorney also renders legal opinions to the City Council, the City Manager and the City staff and appointive boards on municipal government matters, including the interpretation of the City Charter, statutes, ordinances and other regulatory materials and cases.

In addition, the City Attorney represents the City, or supervises outside counsel, in all litigation matters.
