Citizen’s Greeter in City Hall


Volunteers 18 years of age or older will assist with shifts of 4.5 hours Monday-Friday between 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. answering telephones, greeting visitors, providing directions as needed, operating the telephone console and routing telephone calls to the appropriate party. May perform related tasks, as required.

Clerical or Office Assistance in City Hall


Volunteers will assist with typing, filing, copying, answering telephones, and general clerical functions. Preferred age of volunteer is 16 years or older and able to alphabetize, and have general clerical knowledge for the use of fax, copier and related office equipment. Volunteer times vary between the days of Monday – Friday 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. with a minimum of two hour shifts.

Coach/Assistant Coach


Volunteers will assist in teaching the fundamentals of various youth sports teams being coached. Training will be provided to all coaches and assistant coaches.

Community Emergency Response Team (C.E.R.T.)


Volunteers 18 years of age or older are required to attend a basic nine week training course focusing on emergency response. The volunteer assists in providing immediate guidance for victims and their neighborhoods in order to respond to and cope with the aftermath of a disaster.

Customer Service Assistant


Volunteers will assist in processing water payments, parking ticket payments, making courtesy calls and filing service orders. Preferred age of volunteer is 16 years or older. Volunteer times vary between the days of Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Event Assistance, Mizner Park Amphitheater


Assist staff at Mizner Park Amphitheater City-sponsored events setting up and breaking down decorations, signage, tables, chairs and performer’s dressing rooms, if necessary. Preferred age is 16 years or older and able to stand/walk for several hours at a time. Volunteer is outside generally during evening or weekend events and times vary according to the department needs.

Gumbo Limbo Nature Center


Gumbo Limbo Nature Center offers various volunteer opportunities to fit the interests and experiences of volunteers and to match them with the needs of Gumbo Limbo. Some opportunities include working with the public as a marine tank guide, garden volunteer working in the butterfly garden, green thumb assisting in maintaining the container plant garden and landscaping that surrounds the Center where the volunteer will be outside, or inside at the greeter’s desk greeting visitors and assisting with providing information and directions. Preferred age is 16 years or older. Volunteer times are from Monday-Sunday and hours vary according to the needs of the department.

Library Volunteer


Downtown Library and Spanish River Library volunteers assist in areas such as Youth Services Department assisting staff with children programs, library staff with the collection development tasks, reference section assisting patrons in locating library materials or circulation aide assisting staff with returned items and general clerical duties. Volunteers as young as 14 years of age may be accepted for some positions. Volunteer times are from Monday-Sunday and hours vary according to the needs of the department.

Police Department Volunteers


Volunteers assist in areas such as non-criminal fingerprinting service to the public, greeting individuals as they enter the lobby and providing direction to appropriate area for service or assisting with clerical duties throughout the department. Preferred age of volunteer is 16 years or older. Volunteer times are from Monday-Friday and hours vary according to the needs of the department.

Recreation Department – Sugar Sand Park


Volunteers assist in areas such as the science explorium, serving as an usher or technician at Willow Theatre, or assisting with special events and activities. Volunteers as young as 14 years of age can be accepted for some positions. Volunteer times are from Monday-Sunday and hours vary according to the needs of the department.

Sports Scorekeeper


Volunteers, under the supervision of the Athletic Supervisor, assists as sports scorekeeper for various adult or youth sports leagues and programs. The scorekeeper will maintain the official scorebook and/or clock for adult and youth games. Preferred age of volunteer is 16 years or older. Volunteer times are from Monday-Sunday and hours vary according to the needs of the department.

Special Events


Throughout the year, there will be volunteer opportunities with special events that are being held throughout the City.

Starter/Ranger (Regulation and Executive Golf Courses)


Volunteer assists in organizing and directing tee-off area for golfers and keeps track of number of participants. Volunteer will be outside assigned to various other tasks associated with starter/ranger duties. Preferred age is 18 years or older. Volunteer times are from Monday-Sunday and hours vary according to the needs of the department.
