Business Security Tips

There are many steps you can take to make your business as secure as possible. Create policies and procedures regarding money handling, opening and closing of your business, and other various aspects of your business. Provide appropriate training for your employees and make them accountable.

Safe guard alarm codes, safe combinations, and key to the business. Distribution of these items should be limited to essential personnel and change them if an employee is terminated.

Document the make, model, and serial numbers of all equipment such as computers, televisions, tools, etc. Keep valuable items properly secured in locked drawers, cabinets, or rooms at all times.

Programs


There are several programs offered by the Boca Raton Police Services Department to assist owners with their business security:
  • Trespass Enforcement Program: Encourages private property owners, or their authorized agents, to enter into a partnership with the Police Department by signing a Trespass Enforcement Affidavit. This affidavit authorizes the Boca Raton Police to enforce the trespass statutes on their property. The trespass signs state, No Trespassing by Order of the Boca Raton Police and are to be posted on their property.
  • Open and Empty Program: Encourages business owners not to keep money accessible during closed business hours. A static window cling can be displayed on the window of businesses with cash registers. The cling alerts potential criminals No Money In Register Overnight.
  • Lock Auto Signs: Area business plazas, shopping centers, and hotels are encouraged to post signs in an effort to educate the public and prevent auto burglaries. Did you know that many criminal cases have been solved and arrests made because citizens have called the Boca Raton Police Department to report suspicious persons or activity? Your phone calls DO make a difference! Call 561-368-6201 or 911 if you see any of the following:
  • People loitering or whom you don't recognize.
  • Persons lifting up door handles or looking into vehicle windows (in parking lots, at beaches, parks, schools, malls, etc.)
  • Someone attempting to hide behind trees or shrubbery.
  • Strange vehicles backed up to a garage door in a residential area.
  • Unknown persons walking behind, or seen emerging from, the rear of a home or closed business.
  • Vehicles circling or driving slowly through the area.
If it doesn't look right, it probably isn't. Call us right away. You can meet with an officer or choose to remain anonymous.
