Update: April 9, 2021

Sidewalk construction between NE 10th Street and NE 10th Terrace is complete and has re-opened to pedestrian traffic.  Construction activities are anticipated to continue to move north along the project limits through April.  

Traffic Update

  • The southbound lane may be closed, intermittently, 9 a.m. until 4 p.m., Monday through Friday, for construction activities such as concrete pouring for new sidewalk. During this time, a flagging operation will be used to direct traffic northbound and southbound. 
  • The contractor is expected to work within one block at a time. Currently, the contractor plans to work between the blocks of NE 10th Terrace to NE 12th Street, then NE 12th Street to NE 14th Street, and NE 14th Street to NE 15th Terrace through April. Once that section is completed, work will continue north from NE 15th Terrace to US 1. Please note the contractor may move between these blocks as needed. If the sidewalk needs to be closed within one block, a pedestrian detour will be in place with signage. Update: April 2, 2021

Sidewalk construction between NE 7th Street to NE 8th Street and NE 5th Street to NE 5th Court are complete and have re-opened to pedestrian traffic. Construction activities will continue to move north along the project limits through April.

The following locations are complete and have re-opened to pedestrian traffic; however, the contractor may revisit these locations as needed at any time. Construction on the remaining locations on the south end of the project limits will continue through April.

Sidewalk construction from NE 5th Street to NE 2nd Street is complete and has re-opened to pedestrian traffic. Construction activities from NE 2nd Street to Boca Raton Road are ongoing and expected to continue through next week.

After that section is completed, the contractor is expected to then work between NE 7th Street and NE 8th Street. Please note the contractor may move between these blocks as needed. If the sidewalk needs to be closed within one block, a pedestrian detour will be in place with signage. Construction activities at NE 8th Street to NE 7th Street and NE 5th Court to NE 5th Street are currently undergoing landscape coordination. Sidewalk construction between NE 4th Street to NE 5th Street is ongoing and upon completion, work will continue to the south end of the project limits.

Update: January 29, 2021

Sidewalk construction activities for the NE 5th Avenue Sidewalk Improvements Project on behalf of the City of Boca Raton are being finalized between NE 10th Street and NE 9th Street, with the sidewalk expected to reopen next week. Once open, the contractor is expected to close the sidewalk to the immediate south, between NE 9th Street and NE 8th Street, as listed below.

Traffic Impact

  • The southbound lane may be closed, intermittently, 9 a.m. until 4 p.m., Monday through Friday, for construction activities such as concrete pouring for new sidewalk. During this time, a flagging operation will be used to direct traffic northbound and southbound. 
  • The sidewalk between NE 10th Street and NE 9th Street is currently closed around-the-clock, with a pedestrian detour in place. Please note, this section is expected to reopen next week. Once open, the contractor will continue south, closing the sidewalk as needed between NE 9th and NE 8th Street, with a pedestrian detour in place.
  • Work is currently being performed one block at a time. Once work is completed from NE 9th Street and NE 8th Street, the operation is expected to continue southbound to NE 8th Street and NE 7th Street through February 2021. Update: January 22, 2021

Construction for the NE 5th Avenue Sidewalk Improvements Project on behalf of the City of Boca Raton continues between NE 10th Street and NE 9th Street. The project team has also started to disseminate a flyer for driveway coordination which may be required at select homes in the near future based on the contractor’s current schedule.

Impacts may include the removal of driveways, sod, and the cutting and capping of irrigation lines that are within the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) Right-of-Way. Residents who have received this flyer are encouraged to contact Jennifer Valmer, FDOT Project Administrator, at jennifer.valmer@dot.state.fl.us or (561) 598-9234 or Robert Bravo, Project Inspector, at rbravo@cegroupfl.com or (907) 450-9760 to discuss the details prior to construction commencing in front of their homes.

The NE 5th Avenue Sidewalk Improvements Project on behalf of the City of Boca Raton began contract time this week. Work is currently underway between NE 10th Street and NE 9th Street, with the sidewalk currently closed in this section until work is completed. 

Traffic Impact / Lane Closure Information

  • 1/19/21 - 1/22/21 - The southbound lane may be closed, intermittently, 9am until 4pm, Tuesday, January 19 through Friday, January 22 for construction activities such as concrete pouring for new sidewalk. During this time, a flagging operation will be used to direct traffic northbound and southbound.
  • Currently closed: The sidewalk between NE 10th Street and NE 9th Street is currently closed around-the-clock until work is completed in this section, with a pedestrian detour in place.
  • Please note: Work is being done one block at a time. Once work is completed at NE 10th Street and NE 9th Street, the operation is expected to move to NE 9th Street and NE 8th Street, and then continue southbound to NE 8th Street and NE 7th Street through January 2021. January 1, 2021

Beginning January 11, 2021, sidewalk improvements will begin on NE 5th Avenue from Boca Raton Road to SR5 / US-1. Project improvements include:

  • Concrete sidewalk installation
  • Driveway and curb & gutter replacement to align with new sidewalk installation
  • Minor signage and pavement marking upgrades
  • Minor landscaping relocation and irrigation repairs
