Current and Upcoming Projects

Palmetto Park Road Shared Pathway Improvements Project

from State Road 7 to NW 2nd Avenue

This 6.279-mile improvements project includes widening the existing shared-use path & installing new curb ramps to meet current ADA standards, improving pedestrian and bicyclist access to mass transit options along Palmetto Park Road, minor roadway resurfacing at various side streets, and widening the westbound turn lane at Cardinal Avenue’s entrance to the Boca Raton Museum of Art School. During this project, work will take place on the south side of the roadway, parallel to the eastbound lanes, from State Road 7 to NW 12th Avenue, and on both sides of the roadway from NW 12th Avenue to NW 2nd Avenue. The work is being performed by General Asphalt Co., with American Engineering Group providing project oversight in conjunction with FDOT.

Sidewalk Work:  Beginning Monday, Sept. 24, sidewalk improvements will begin along eastbound Palmetto Park Road (County Road 798) between SW 9th Avenue and SW 7th Avenue in the City of Boca Raton. See FDOT flyer (PDF).

Work will consist of removing the existing sidewalk and placing concrete for the new 5-foot sidewalk and ADA ramps. The contractor is expected to remain in this location through October 2018, weather permitting and pending any unforeseen issues. The Palm Tran bus stop, located at SW 9th Avenue, will be unavailable for one day during this work; however, the SW 7th Avenue bus stop will remain open.

The sidewalk at driveways will be replaced in half sections, so access is maintained at all times. Pedestrians will be detoured to the existing sidewalk on the westbound/north side of Palmetto Park Road, between SW 9th Avenue and 4th Avenue until the work is completed. The work should occur within the existing Right-of-Way immediately next to the sidewalk without impacting traffic daily. However, the outside eastbound lane may be closed as needed.

Camino Real Intracoastal Waterway Bridge

The Camino Real Intracoastal Waterway Bridge project, overseen by Palm Beach County Roads & Bridges, will result in a complete renovation of the existing Camino Real bridge.  The renovation will require the complete closure of the Camino Real bridge to vehicles and pedestrians. The bridge was originally scheduled to be open to traffic on or before April 12, 2019, but in October 2018, additional work, which was not detectable prior to beginning construction, was identified as being in need of repairs. The additional work may extend the bridge closure by 12 weeks, putting the opening in the summer of 2019.
